Agios Ioannis Lefkada
Agios Ioannis beach is the closest beach to Lefkada town just a couple of kilometres away and it is considered as one of the nicest beaches in Ionian Sea. This long beach is stretching out for approx. 3 kms and it is surrounded by golden sand and blue green waters.
The area boasts an exotic landscape which attracts thousands of visitors. It is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas facing the wonderful sea.
Agios Ioannis is the home to some old windmills, because of the frequent blowing strong winds, are remaining there from the eighteenth century and they stand as sentinels that lined up along the waterfront and making it a popular area for windsurfers.
Some caffe and water sports centres board the beach of Agios Ioannis. On the left hand side of the beach you will find the Church of Agios Ioannis Antzousis. A tiny whitewashed church with interesting icons, which had offered its name to the area.
North of Agios Ioannis beach is Gyra lagoon, surrounded by the flat green plains that are scattered with houses and olive groves, the road to Lefkada town has the sea and the lagoon on either side making a breathtaking ride,whilst an old fourteenth century sea fortress offers a charming backdrop.
