Katerina Houst is the perfect place for a wonderfully relaxing holiday in Kalami. Everything was organised for us via Eos Travel and they were always helpful and made everything straightforward and simple. Couldnt recommend this properly and travel company highly enough! We had a lovely stay at Katerina house. The apartment was pretty spot on with the description and did not disappoint. Our sincere thanks for the kindness and efficiency shown by George and Agapi when I suddenly fell ill and had to be hospitalised. We definitely hope to return one day and Katerina will be our choice for accommodation.

A great property

We were badly let down by the owner of the original accommodation we had booked through another website and were very grateful that we were offered Katerina House for the same dates with Eos. The picture of the view from the balcony on the website is exactly like the actual view, which isn't always the case. The apartment is 2 minutes walk from the shingle beach and clear turquoise sea in the beautiful Kalami bay. Although the apartment is on ground level as you enter it, because of the slope of the surrounding land, the balconies at the back of the apartment appear to be on a higher level which enhances the view. The apartment was clean, tidy, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The beds were comfortable (which isn't always the case!), the apartment was cleaned and the bedding and towels were changed three times during our two week stay. The air con was a blessing for the 30 degree plus temperature and the wi-fi, although it disappeared a few times, was sufficient for e-mail and skype. Although there are quite a few apartments in close proximity the location was always quiet. Kalami is a beautiful little bay, the surrounding scenery outstanding and the local people are very friendly and helpful. Prior to our first visit in the late 90's, a friend who recommended Kalami said that if you returned more than once, the local shop and taverna owners would remember you. We thought this was a bit of a tall order but have found it to be true. If you want a holiday full of nightclubs and mad activity don't go to Kalami. Most of the people who return year after year love it for the quiet and tranquil place that it is, with three tavernas on the beach, three pools that anyone can use and a couple of gift shops. Although the accommodation is mainly self catering, there is a complex, San Antonio, which has recently been upgraded to Adults Only which offers various catering options. There is entertainment most nights with live music on the terrace, one not to be missed is the Greek dancing on a Saturday night, the fire dancing is quite spectacular. You can enjoy a meal out in Agni Bay, just around the headland. If you feel energetic you can walk round over the cliff path for lunch and enjoy more spectacular scenery (make sure you've got your water bottle, you'll need it!) or be transported by boat of an evening, but be sure to book first. There are three tavernas in Agni Bay but go to Taverna Nikolas more than once and Perikles, the owner will treat you as a friend. I don't really want to say much more because the people who love Kalami just want to keep it as a secret between themselves! Obviously one thing that can't be forgotten is that the Durrells loved it so much, they stayed for a bit.

We are a family of 4 with 2 teenage boys and have I just had a brilliant week in Kalami. The bay is beautiful, peaceful and very relaxing and Katerina house offers a perfect base. The apartment is practically on the beach and has a small balcony facing the see with enough room for 4 people to sit.The flat was cleaned every 3 days with a change of sheets and towels and the couple maintaining the flat were just downstairs and available for any help. I would recommend a stay here for a relaxing time by the sea.

Kalami Corfu

Kalami Corfu

Kalami is one of Corfu’s most picturesque spots. It is located 30km from Corfu town and is a settlement of Gimari village.
The main beach lies in front of the settlement and it is composed by white shiny pebbles and turquoise waters. Kalami beach is worldwide famous at it had inspired the English author Gerald Darrell for his novel “My Family and the other Animals”, during his stay in a village home, The White House which is still existing at the right hand-side of the bay. Apart from this, the beach has become popular for its cleanness and organization, while it offers a wide variety of water sports activities, boat hire and romantic coastal tavernas.
The settlement is surrounded by vast vegetation and lush green forests which attract many visitors.
Behind the beach you will find various accommodation amongst the trees, an ideal environment for peaceful and relaxing vacation and the best destination for the nature lovers.

Sports and natureAll types of water sports are available at the left handside of the bay. Walks among the olive grove to picturesque Kouloura or Agni Bay could be an amazing experience.

Nightlife

NightlifeKalami is a family resort with a couple of bars, where families can spend their relaxing evenings watching the moon rising from the Albanian mountain. Greek or Karaoke nights can be joined up should someone wish so. For the more demanding ones the nearest place is Kassiopi, just ten minutes drive away.

Culture & history

Culture & historyOn the 21st of May is the name day of Saints Constantine and Helen. The locals celebrate the name day of the Saints with a festival in the back yard of the church. There is plenty of food with "souvlaki" or grilled lamb and soft drinks, retsina wine or beers. The people are dancing to traditional Corfiot and Greek songs played by a live band. During the summer season, the festival of pie is organized at the same place. Local ladies are cooking their own pie recopies and offer them for free to everyone joining the party with a local band and traditional dances. Every year the locals organize a Varcarola festival in Kalami. This is an old Corfiot event, where small boats, decorated with lights, sail along Kalami bay as the choirs of the Municipality sing traditional Corfiot songs called "cantades".
