Our return to Agraka

Holiday Rating: 5

We all enjoyed our stay at Villa Animone, great location so very close to sea and sand 1 minute and from Villa you are in the sea. The swimming pool was excellent and terraced area surround. There were some issues that we had to bring to the notice of Eos, and there service people came to correct1 or 2 items the same day. Summing up Eos are very good but the owner needs to input some care and a little money to bring it to the standard required. One small item to point out, if you are arriving late ensure you stop for some food and drink essential0s as when we arrived the fridge was completely empty.

Thanks for hosting us. I rather liked this villa. It was clean. Nice location (with a car), good places to eat in nearest village. and the villa itself in 40 seconds to the sea. Even did not see a host (It is one of the pros for me) but not everything was clear (how to get the villa inside), so we should call and figured it out. As for cons there were no pan, salt, sugar and other little stuff that we are usially accustomed to. At the first night I was frozen because did nit find blankets. They were in other room which was free. So discover your villa first. And have a good stay in Cyprus.

Argaka-Cyprus

Argaka-Cyprus

Argaka is situated on the coast, just 7kms north of Polis, NW Cyprus. Famous for its magnificent sunsets and hospitality, Argaka is the place to be!
Argaka is a small traditional Cypriot farming village, built along a ridge with magnificent views of the sea. Its location makes it the ideal place to just sit back and relax.
There is no record of the origins of the village or whether it existed in medieval times, but east of the village lies the restored church of Agia Varva which belonged to the Jerusalem Patriarchate and functioned until 1821.
The settlement of Argaka has two parts. There is Pano Argaka (Upper) and Kato Argaka (Lower). Upper Argaka represents the old settlement while Lower Argaka, which followed the Polis – Pomos – Nicosia road, is the new, linear-type settlement. The houses of the old settlement are mostly traditional, made with hewed limestone or with igneous pebbles. Because of the stream that crosses it (known as the River of Argaka), of the slope upon which it is built, and of the road through which it connects with the new settlement by the sea, the settlement of Argaka can be characterized as a relatively sparsely structured one.
The village features a selection of shops, supermarkets and banks, to satisfy all visitor’s needs while on holiday.
Argaka has several dams where fishing may be possible. This part of the island is very fertile and has an abundance of fruit trees including figs, grapes, prickly pears, apples, oranges and lemons.

Sports and nature

Akamas Peninsula It is a wonderful place to escape and be with nature. The Peninsula is famous for its wildlife and rare, endemic flora. Lefkara This charming village between Limassol and Larnaca is famous for its silver filigree and, significantly, its lace. Petra tou Romiou Petra tou Romiou (Rock of Aphrodite) is one of the most beautiful spots on the island. It said to be where the Greek goddess Aphrodite was born. Phoinikoudes, Larnaca A 2 miles or so long esplanade lined with palm trees, the Phoinikoudes (locally Foinikoudes) is the icon image of Larnaca. Ayia Napa Agia Napa has ‘grown up’ and now has a growing number of sophisticated nightspots, restaurants and cultural venues, as well as lively clubs that still attract the young, trendy set. The resort has some of the best beaches and diving opportunities on the island.

Nightlife

Argaka features all type of bars, pubs, music tavernas and discos.

Culture & history

Cyprus Museum The Museum has got a magnificent collection of archaeological treasures, dating back to Neolithic times, including astonishingly well-preserved Mycenaean pottery, Chalcolithic figurines, Egyptian and Roman statues and carvings from the Royal Tombs at Salamis. The museum is located in central Nicosia. Kourion, Limassol The ancient city-kingdom site of the Kourion is the finest archaeological site on the island, With its spectacular Greco-Roman theatre, agora (marketplace) and the remains of a cathedral, the House of Eustolios with well-preserved 5th century floor mosaics, the ancient city-kingdom site of . On the same site is a stadium and sanctuary. Kyrenia Once an important Roman and Venetian port and said to be one of the most picturesque harbours in the Mediterranean, dominated by a vast fortress. Kyrenia Castle houses a Shipwreck Museum, which is best known for its 2,300-year-old merchant vessel and amphorae display. Tombs of the Kings This is a collection of rock cut tombs. The tombs were of noblemen, rather than kings, and are historically important because of their design. Troodos Painted Churches This is a collection of 10 richly painted churches and tiny monasteries. Two of the most spectacular are the Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis at Kakopetria with frescos from the 11th century, and Panagia tou Araka with scenes from the Old Testament. Baths of Aphrodite An isolated freshwater pool on the edge of the Akamas Peninsula, the Baths of Aphrodite near Polis is where, so legend has it, the Greek goddess bathed and enjoyed trysts with the god Adonis. Hala Sultan Tekke Located near Larnaca International Airport, the Hala Sultan Tekke is a beautiful 19th century mosque set amongst palm trees.
